Rapid self-test following a tick bite
The Tik’Alert Swiss Point of Care is a high-quality immunochromatographic self-test for the detection of anti-Borrelia IgM antibodies in blood. These antibodies may be produced following infection with the Borrelia bacterium, which can be transmitted via an infected tick bite and cause Lyme disease.

When is the test suitable?
Following a tick bite, the immune system produces antibodies against the Borrelia bacterium. The first IgM antibodies are usually detectable approximately 2 to 6 weeks after infection. This test is therefore particularly suitable when some time has elapsed since the tick bite. Immediately after a tick bite, the test is usually not yet reliable, as there is often not yet a measurable amount of antibodies present.

Important information
A positive result indicates that IgM antibodies against Borrelia have been detected, but does not determine the stage of any Lyme infection. A negative result does not completely rule out an infection, particularly if the test is carried out too soon after the tick bite or if insufficient antibodies have yet been produced.

If the test is positive, or if you have a red, ring-shaped rash (erythema migrans), a fever, neurological symptoms or other symptoms that may be consistent with Lyme disease, it is important to consult a doctor.
