Rapid self-test for syphilis
The SYPH-CHECK-1 Swiss Point of Care is a qualitative immunochromatographic self-test for the detection of antibodies against Treponema pallidum in fingerstick blood. Treponema pallidum is the bacterium that causes syphilis.

The test is intended as an initial screening for a possible infection and can be carried out at home by non-professional users.

What is syphilis?
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection that can develop in various stages. Possible initial symptoms include a painless sore and, later, a rash. The infection can then remain present for a long time without any obvious symptoms.

Without treatment, syphilis can eventually lead to serious complications, including damage to the nervous system and the cardiovascular system. Infection usually occurs through sexual contact. Transmission during pregnancy is also possible.

How does the test work?
Following infection, the body produces antibodies against Treponema pallidum. The SYPH-CHECK-1 detects these antibodies in a small sample of capillary whole blood taken from the fingertip.

As antibodies are not always detectable immediately after infection, a test carried out too early may give a negative result. If you have recently been in a high-risk situation, a repeat test or further medical investigation may be necessary.
