• In contact with blood, the large surface area of the sponge causes rapid breakdown of platelets.
  This releases thromboplastin, so that normal coagulation (blood clotting)occurs.
• The sponge is a-toxic and does not cause allergic reactions.
• The Spongostan gelatine sponge sticks to the wound surface and absorbs about 40 times its own weight of blood.

Use of Spongostan Dental gelatine sponge:

The haemostatic sponge can be used dry or soaked in physiological saline or antibiotics, has a neutral pH and can be easily cut into any shape.

When Spongostan is applied to the body, it is fully absorbed over the course of about 4 weeks, without formation of scar tissue.
